IB Diploma Programme (DP)
Bandung Independent School provides a full High School programme leading to graduation and preparation for university entrance. We recognize and encourage the developing maturity and capabilities of our students academically, but also encourage their personal development through their participation in service, a number of sports, after school activities, and special events.
The Bandung Independent School High School Diploma is based on accumulation of credits earned and calculation of Grade Point Average (GPA) in Grades 9 – 12 and it is accredited through both CIS (the Council of International Schools) and NEASC (the New England Association of Schools and Colleges). As per Indonesian government regulations, students take Indonesian Civics or Studies, ReIigion classes (Indonesian Nationals and any students who choose to take religion), then national exams in Grades 9 and 12.
In Grades 11 and 12, students may also choose to enroll in the IB Diploma Programme, which is recognized as a premier credential by top universities worldwide. We are inclusive in entry to the Diploma Programme – any student who wishes to make a genuine attempt at the IBDP is welcome to do so, with our support and advice both before and during the programme.
What the DP offers students
Through the DP, schools are able to develop students who:
- have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge
- flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically
- study at least two languages
- excel in traditional academic subjects
- explore the nature of knowledge through the programme’s unique theory of knowledge course.
BIS is an IB continuum school offering three IB programmes
The DP is preceded by the IB’s Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP). The three programmes are philosophically aligned, each centred on developing attributes of the IB learner profile. The programmes are consistent in their pedagogical approach.
Students who have taken the PYP and MYP will therefore be well prepared for the challenges of the DP. Find out more about the IB’s other education programmes.
The IB Diploma Programme at BIS
We offer an impressive range of subjects in the IB Diploma Programme. Students must select one from each group. Students may also opt to take two courses from either Group 3 or 4 instead of a Group 6 subject. To be eligible for the IB Diploma, a minimum of three courses must be taken at Higher Level (HL). Students will also complete the DP core component (Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, and Service).
