Dear BIS Dragons Community,
On behalf of the Board, Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri. Mohon maaf lahir dan batin. I wish everyone in the community a restful and joyful break. Also, good luck to the Swim, Badminton, and Cross Country teams as they participate in IISSAC next weekend. I've personally seen all the hard work students have put into their respective sports, and you all should be proud!
Last weekend, the Board, Dr. Berry, and Ms. Marci participated in a Board training centered around understanding the roles of the Board and Head of School. One of the main purposes of the training was for the Board to learn more about its role in governance in relation to the Head of School's role in operations. However, the takeaway for me is that any successful Board-HoS relationship requires teamwork, transparency, and a shared commitment to the school's guiding statements. I mean it when I say that I believe the school is in good hands.
This leads me to my next announcement. As two Board members will soon be stepping down, we are looking to add two parents from the community who believe they can contribute in this role. What does it take to be a Board member? In short, a potential Board member should be/have:
- A current parent and active community member
- A commitment to the school's vision, mission, and values
- Experience in various Board responsibilities including marketing, development, facilities management, finance/accounting, and/or policy
- A willingness to support the Head of School and unite the community to make BIS the best it can be for students
A Board member's commitment is to a 3-year term, the maximum service time being two terms. Board members attend an annual retreat, monthly Board meetings, and contribute to at least one additional committee. If you're interested in finding out more about being a Board member, please contact me at roger.lam@bisedu.or.id. I believe that what makes BIS special is the community and that a particular strength is the Board can only comprise parents of current students.
That's it for this month. Wishing everyone a wonderful Lebaran break.
Warm Regards,
Roger Lam
